Restored behaviors, restored hearts.

Our Santo Domingo East school has implemented a Restoration Process to address issues of classroom misbehavior in the classroom.

Since the start of the process, the school has seen a large improvement in student behavior this year.

Many students at Kids Alive schools come from homes where they lack positive examples of managing their words and actions, often bringing those experiences into the classroom.

The staff at the school have worked together to develop a Restoration process for approaching discipline in the classroom.

A small team of school staff are designated as Restoration Staff (pictured in purple shirts).

Kami (school director) gathered all of the teachers together to help identify the core behavioral issues that they are facing in the classroom. After various meetings and corroboration, the staff settled on the 15 primary misbehaviors that they are managing in the classroom. Then, they worked to develop a step-by-step restoration process.

One aspect of this process is called the Peace Ladder.

Students who are in an argument use this process of communication to reconcile with each other. The Peace Ladder is facilitated by one of the designated Restoration staff. This process creates intentional communication, leading to reconciliation conversations for students.

The peace ladder used to facilitate reconciliation between students in conflict

During one instance of using the Peace Ladder, a student was moved to confess not only his wrongdoing in the conflict at hand, but he made a declaration of faith and came to Christ.

God is working through the Restoration process at the school in eternally formative ways.
